GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An East Tennessee pilot has survived the crash of his small plane without serious injury.
Jim Pensinger of Afton told The Greeneville Sun he was taking off from a grass strip at his home Sunday afternoon when the wind shifted, causing his Zenith Zodiac airplane to clip some trees.
Pensinger considered landing in a nearby field, but saw a farmer was plowing it.
He crash-landed the plane on a two-lane road in northeastern Green County and was able to get out through the shattered canopy and walk away.
Fire burned the front end and left wing of the plane, which Pensinger said he built from a kit about four years ago.
