SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The mayor of Hancock County in East Tennessee said the closure of a major manufacturer is a huge hit to the county and its economy.
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported Monday that Volunteer Fabricators in Sneedville is closing and putting 145 people out of work.
Tommy Eggleston, vice president of operations, said the furniture supply company will close because of a lack of business and will not reopen.
Greg Marion, the county mayor, told the Knoxville News Sentinel the loss of more than 100 jobs is a severe setback for the rural county.
