Comic author aims for the silver screen

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - You may see the visions of a Mid-South comic author one day on the big screen.

In his tiny studio in uptown Memphis, graphic artist Martheus Wade sketches out characters for his comic book series 'Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa.'

"The book is about a futuristic tale of this woman named Shianndrea Toshigawa, who is supposed to save the world from this impending army," Wade said.

Called Jetta for short, Wade's character is a kick-butt, take-names kind of hero.

"I got my inspiration from Wonder Woman and other super heroine characters," Wade said.

Wade's passion for comic books began years ago at Wooddale Jr. High.  Recently, a producer at Lizard Brain Productions ran across Wade's comics, and now he's talking with Wade about turning part of the series into a movie.

"The next thing I know, they flew me out to San Francisco and we signed the paperwork," Wade said.

With quick look around Wade's studio, his inspiration is clear.  Shelves are covered with action figures, and walls are covered with drawings.  However, Wade says his comics are aimed at a mature audience, and readers may find some of the pictures a little racy.
  
Wade has already made a name for himself with designs for Paramount, Hasbro toys, and Marvel, and he hopes a movie about Jetta will lead to toys and possibly cartoon animation.
