Victim says she feared for her life after slashing

Associated Press - July 14, 2009 10:45 AM ET

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A former Middle Tennessee State University student is being tried in the slashing of another student in a university parking lot.

Starlett Custer was indicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

The Daily News Journal reported that on the first day of the trial Monday, Ashley Ramsey testified she remembered asking a police officer was she going to die after she was cut.

The then- 17-year-old freshman suffered cuts in what prosecutors said was a fight over a parking space in a campus lot nearly 11 months ago.

Ramsey - of Bradyville - withdrew for a year to recover from injuries to her face and hand.

Defense attorney Joe Brandon Jr. asked Ramsay whether the wounds could have been self-inflicted.
