JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - The daughter of 1 of the victims in a double homicide is asking the district attorney's office to release the man accused of the crime.
WJHL-TV reports Walter Shell still has not gone to trial 10 years after police accused him of shooting John Goodin and Paul Keyser.
Shell was initially found incompetent to stand trial, but earlier this year he was released from a Knoxville mental hospital into the custody of the Washington County jail.
Dee Goodin told the station she doesn't see the case going anywhere and taxpayers should not have to continue to pay for Shell's upkeep.
Assistant District Attorney Dennis Brooks said it was necessary to move slowly for the safety of the community.
