Eddie George firm wins North Nashville design bid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former Tennessee Titan Eddie George is planning a major overhaul of Nashville's historically black Jefferson Street district.

George is a founding partner of the EDGE landscape architecture firm that won the design consulting job through a competitive bid.

The Tennessean reports the overhaul to be unveiled Thursday is intended to bring new economic development to North Nashville by reducing the impact Interstate 40 has on the neighborhood where Fisk University and Tennessee State University are located.

The first phase of the Gateway to Heritage project will be funded by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Nashville government.
