MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The National Institutes of Health has awarded a $15 million grant to the chief of preventive medicine at the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Dr. William C. Cushman will lead a network of VA clinical sites in the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial.
It's a $114 million, 9-year clinical trial testing the effects of intensive lowering of systolic blood pressure on preventing cardiovascular disease.
The Memphis VA center will contribute 1,500 participants to the study.
Cushman is a noted clinical scientist and considered an expert in the treatment of hypertension.
