Memphis woman uses unique approach for job search

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Denise Caccamisi stood on a Midtown Memphis street corner Wednesday, looking for work.

"I feel good about it," she said.  "No, I'm not embarrassed about it."

Not embarrassed, because it wasn't exactly how it sounds.  Caccamisi was literally looking for full time employment, and was trying to draw attention to herself by standing at an intersection with lots of traffic.

Standing at Union and McLean, Caccamisi was prepared.  Along with a sign, she brought water and a briefcase full of resumes.  By 11:00 a.m., she had handed out eight.

Caccamisi said she hasn't had a full time job since March, 2008.  She is taking extreme measures because typical job search methods haven't been effective.

"A lot of people are in the same boat I am," she said. "When you have a job opening, 600 people apply for that job opening, so you gotta do what you can, be creative, try to get full time work."

For Caccamisi, literally standing outside is the perfect way to figuratively stand out.

"Hopefully, it'll work," she said.

It may have.  Caccamisi left her street corner early Wednesday afternoon for an afternoon job interview that she scheduled while standing there.
