MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police busted an active meth lab Thursday afternoon behind a home located near two elementary schools.
Officials said two suspects were making meth inside in a workshop behind a home located near the interchange of I-40 and Summer Avenue, close to both Macon and Berclair Elementary Schools.
Longtime neighbor Tommy Ward was among those glad to see the suspected Meth lab cleaned up.
Undercover cops had the home under surveillance after receiving a number of complaints.
"I think that's a blessing from above, a real blessing, because we don't need any drugs in this neighborhood," Ward said.
As witnesses looked on, officers wearing protective suits removed ingredients from the home that make up the potentially explosive recipe of meth.
Meanwhile, firefighters stood by, in case of an explosion - a potential threat investigators say is becoming more common in neighborhoods just like this one. In fact, officials said, it was not the first meth lab to be busted in the neighborhood.
