MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Police have one person in custody after a bank robbery led to a standoff Friday night in the middle of a busy Memphis neighborhood.
Police arrested the suspect, Gregg Drew, Friday night after he surrendered from his home at 5916 Lynnbrier. Drew is accused of robbing the Trust One Bank on International Avenue.
"We had a white male wearing a mask and wig enter the business armed with a handgun," said Memphis Police spokesperson Karen Rudolph. "(He) demanded money, took an undetermined amount of money, and left the scene."
Frantic neighbors reacted to the chaos, which ended with a five-hour standoff with police in East Memphis.
"(I'm) Very nervous," said neighbor Diane Lucchesi. "Very scared about what's going on in the neighborhood."
According to the records listed online by the Shelby County Property Assessor, Drew owns the home where the standoff happened and is listed as the co-owner of Poplar Lounge.
Action News 5 visited the business Monday afternoon, but no one inside had any comment. Meanwhile, neighbors on Lynnbrier say they'll remain on guard.
"I see all the police in front of my house," neighbor Pattie Wong said. "I think something is happening to my house because just on Wednesday, a street over, my neighbor was burglarized."
Drew is charged with bank robbery and carrying a firearm. A bond hearing is set for Thursday in federal court.
