FAYETTE, Miss. (AP) - Jefferson County and state law enforcement officials are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman whose body was discovered in the graveyard of East Mount Olive Baptist Church. The county coroner says he responded to a call about the body found at the church about 7:25 last night.

PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County School District high school students will not be getting personal laptops in the coming school year as Superintendent Ben Burnett had hoped. Officials say the district does not have the $500,000 necessary to equip each student with one.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent James Bacchus is proposing to eliminate the majority of a $1.8 million budget shortfall by cutting 20 teacher positions.

Bacchus says his plan to lay off teachers must be approved by the Hattiesburg Public School District Board of Trustees. The board will hold its budget hearings in June.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A Marshall County woman has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison for embezzling money from a Holly Springs bank. The U.S. attorney's office says 53-year-old Deborah Shaw of Waterford was sentenced in U. S. District Court in Oxford on Tuesday.
