Memphis Police investigate five new homicides over violent two day period

Memphis Police are investigating five new homicide cases after a violent two days in Memphis.  A total of five people died in deadly shootings on Friday and Saturday.

The first shooting happened just before 7:00 a.m. in the 1100 block of Merchant.  One man was found dead after witnesses reported hearing multiple shots fired.  The victim has not been identified.

A second shooting Friday cost another man his life, in the neighborhood of Vance and Orleans around 5:15 p.m. Friday.  The shooting victim was transported to The MED where he died a short time later.  He has not yet been identified.

Memphis Police began a third homicide investigation around 11:00 p.m. Friday, when residents in the 300 block of Pope found a man shot to death.  Investigators said the male victim, who has not been identified, was shot several times.

Just a half an hour later, police received a call about an attempted robbery and shooting near the Riverside Park Marina.  There, according to investigators, two men drove up to the marina in a dark red or maroon Nissan.  A gunman leaned out the passenger side window and shot a man.  The victim, identified as Ethan Jacobs, later died at The MED.

Finally, Saturday around noon, someone kicked in the door of a Memphis man's home and shot him to death.  Investigators said the attack happened in the 1100 block of South Orleans.  According to investigators, a gunman broke into the home of victim Marvin Millbrook demanding money. Millbrook was shot, and later died at the hospital.  A gray Lincoln was seen leaving the scene after the shooting.

Memphis Police spokesperson Sgt. Vince Higgins said to date in 2007, there have been 59 murders in the city of Memphis, 10 less than in the same time period in 2006.
