MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A two-alarm fire destroyed a well-known Memphis fabrics store Thursday night.
The popular Hancock Fabrics on Quince Road in East Memphis went up in flames shortly after midnight.
It took more than one hundred fire fighters more than an hour to knock out the fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
A Memphis Fire Lieutenant says he believes they contained the fire to the fabric store, saving the next door Dollar General Store and Subway from destruction.
Witnesses said the size of the fire floored them.
"The flames were shooting way the heck up," witness Tim Cook said.
When fire fighters arrived, they found flames coming from the roof and began a defensive attack on the fire by fighting it from the outside.
"It's a good thing it happened at night, so no one got hurt," witness Leslie Gunther said.
Firefighters worked much of the day putting out hot spots. Investigators are still trying to determine what started the blaze.
