MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A mother was robbed at gunpoint in a supermarket parking lot as she strapped her one-year-old son into his car seat.
Kristin Goode and son Kai were preparing to head home after a shopping trip to Montesi's on Summer Avenue. She says a man approached her from behind and demanded her purse.
Goode says the suspect told her he'd hurt her child if she didn't cooperate.
"I think that's why they do it to people with kids, because they know you're gonna give your stuff up because you don't want them to get hurt," she said.
Melvin Stephens was working security at Montesi's on the night of the robbery. He tried to chase down the suspect after hearing Goode screaming that she'd been robbed.
Surveillance video released by Memphis police shows the chase through the well-lit parking lot.
"I ran all the way down to the next street over, but he got away," Stephens said.
Goode says the incident marks the second time she has been robbed in the last three months. Both robberies happened close to home.
"Mostly I was thinking I can't believe this is happening again," she said.
If you have any information that can lead to an arrest in this robbery, call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
