Habitat, Wal-Mart put Michigan families in homes

Associated Press - November 20, 2009 3:54 PM ET

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Habitat for Humanity is putting homes in the hands of 2 Detroit-area families, with help from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and its employees.

Habitat's Oakland branch is turning over a rehabilitated house in Pontiac on Friday to David and Marijayne Renny and their 2-year-old daughter Pixie. It's the first home the family has owned.

Also Friday, the group's Macomb County branch is giving a three-bedroom house in Roseville to a single mother and her two children.

Employees from many Walmart stores spent weeks volunteering on the projects, as well as two other Habitat for Humanity homes in Grand Rapids and Lansing. The Benton, Ark.-based retailer also contributed money to the projects.
