MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis couple faces animal cruelty charges after police say the pair moved out of their home and left their dog locked inside the house without food or water.

Deah Martin, 27, and her husband Nicholas moved out of their duplex on North Greer. According to an affidavit of complaint, the couple left a young pit bull confined inside the home.

A maintenance man discovered the starving dog, which went without food and water for about two weeks.

The Martins were arrested Friday morning.

Neighbor Kenny Ewing has nothing nice to say the couple.

"I call them white trash. They were troublemakers really," he said. "I'm glad to hear they were arrested for what they did."

Neighbor Eric Kinnamon had concerns about how the dog was being treated even before the Martins moved away.

"Their dog was locked up out front, and I'm not a fan of leaving your dog chained or caged to anything," he said. "There's a lot of people who would have loved to have him as a pet. He would have made a good pet."

The dog was taken to Memphis Animal Services.

The Martins are out of jail on bond, but phone calls from Action news 5 have gone unanswered.
