HOLLY SPRINGS, MS (WMC-TV) - Authorities in Marshall County recovered thousands of dollars of stolen property, mostly in the form of heavy equipment, during a raid Wednesday.
Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said investigators seized an estimated $250,000 to $500,000 worth of stolen equipment. The crime spree apparently reaches across several counties in both Tennessee and Mississippi.
"Industrial type equipment, trucks, trailers, lawn mowers and other items," he said.
Authorities discovered the property behind a home on Highway 7 South in Holly Springs.
"We also seized from the residence in question several firearms, and an amount of drugs was found in the residence," Dickerson said.
A tip from a confidential source is what investigators said led them to this location. When they arrived, officers captured one of the suspects, but two escaped.
"They fled in some off-road type Toyota vehicle - four wheel drive vehicle - and went into a wooded area and eluded officers," Dickerson said.
Taj Colom, who said some of his construction equipment was recently stolen, was quick to applaud investigators.
"The fueling equipment was gone," Colom said. "A trailer with a 500 gallon fuel tank. Other items on the trailer were missing."
Colom said while he waits to see if any of the property recovered belongs to him, he'll remain cautious.
"You work everyday and you work hard and somebody tries to take what you have. It kinda upsets you," he said.
Dickerson said anyone with information on the crime that can help authorities should call 662-252-1311.
