COVINGTON, TN (WMC-TV) - A Covington woman wants answers after she says her neighbor shot and killed her dog, and neighbors in the area say her dog isn't the only victim.
"She didn't have to die, my kids had to bury her in the backyard with twenty holes in her body," Denise Stapleton said.
Last week, Stapleton's two-year-old red bone coon hound, Annie, was shot and killed in her neighborhood, she was shocked.
Stapleton said Annie got out of the house and ran to a neighbor's house. That's when another neighbor called her.
"They saw him turn on the back porch light and shoot, they heard my dog scream and he shut off his light and went back in the house," she said.
Brandy Halsey claimed the same neighbor shot the leg off her dog Scooby Doo.
"His own granddaughter actually told my children as well as some kids that she was there when he did it, that he doesn't feel shame about it," she said.
Neighbors say the man who lives in the house just down the street from them - Thomas Scott - is the one who's been shooting dogs.
When Action News 5 called Mr. Scott on the phone, he said he had no comment.
Tipton County deputies say Thomas Scott is cooperating in the investigation.
Two years ago, Scott admitted to killing another one of Stapleton's dogs for attacking his livestock.
Stapleton was cited for letting the dog run loose.
"People are responsible for their dogs and if they leave the property and go and kill other livestock, obviously that is an issue," Deputy Chief Donna Turner said.
"If the dog is a nuisance to you, call the pound, call me, tell me your dog is on your property," Stapleton said.
No one has been charged for shooting and killing Denise Stapleton's dog Annie.
