FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Washington County Prosecutor's Office has ruled a Fayetteville police officer was justified in the fatal shooting of a bank robbery suspect.
Prosecuting Attorney John Threet reviewed an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office before determining Wednesday that Detective David Williams acted appropriately on Dec. 2, when Williams shot and killed 29-year-old Matthew Andersen of Elkins.
Police Chief Greg Tabor says the department always felt Williams, a 10-year veteran, had been justified in the shooting.
Williams shot Andersen outside an Arvest Bank as Andersen tried to drive away after trying to rob the bank at a drive-through window. Police say when officers responding to the bank alarm blocked Andersen's car he rammed into a car behind him and Williams fired three shots.
