BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The murder trial of a Blytheville man for the death of a pregnant woman has been set to begin Jan. 12.
Mississippi County Circuit Judge Victor Hill set the date Monday for 21-year-old Justin Mangum in the Jan. 25, 2009, shooting death of 24-year-old Sonya Stokes.
Police say Mangum has given a taped confession to killing Stokes and that he has said he may have been the father of the unborn child.
Mangum's attorney says he'll challenge the confession. Defense attorney Ray Nickle says he believes the confession was illegally obtained and he'll ask the court to prevent it from being used as evidence.
Stokes' body was found after her 5- and 3-year-old called Stokes' mother and said the woman was on the floor and wouldn't wake up.
