DYERSBURG, TN (WMC-TV) - Ice and snow made travel in parts of Dyersburg, Tennessee nearly impossible as emergency crews worked to help stranded drivers.

The combination of snow and ice was an unfamiliar scene for Dyersburg resident Joe Goade.

"I have been in Tennessee for 12 years and we normally don't get this kind of weather," Goade said.

The icy mess on the road and on cars had drivers like James Newman on guard.

"Just got to take your time," Newman said.  "Put it in neutral and pat your breaks and get ready to stop."

Snow plows kept roads clear and road crews were out spreading salt and sand to keep roads safe.

Bill Revell, former mayor of Dyersburg, witnessed an overturned salt truck.

"They turned a salt truck over last night in my neighborhood," Revell said.  "They worked on it four or five hours trying to get it out."

The icy conditions also forced many businesses in Dyersburg to close.
