MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Even as many businesses are cutting back or closing down, Mid-South Home Depot stores are about to offer new seasonal jobs.

Art Pruitt, a manager at the Home Depot in Midtown Memphis, said Tuesday he is ready for the spring hiring season.

"What I need is someone who can provide excellent customer service," Pruitt said.

Spring is a busy time for the home improvement industry.

"The number one thing people start doing is outside work, gardening, mulching and grilling starts," Pruitt said.

That's why Pruitt's store is now accepting applications.

"Within the next three to four weeks, we're looking to hire about eight to ten people," he said.

Across the Memphis area, Home Depot is seeking approximately 100 seasonal, part-time associates for its area stores during the busy selling season.  While most positions are temporary, Pruitt says seasonal associates will be assigned responsibilities based on their experience and training.

"Home Depot has courses and training," he said. "We can teach the people what they need as far as in their departments."

It's great news for shoppers like Sammy Jones, who said the new jobs will help bring an added boost to the economy.

"It's hard to find a job with everybody cutting back and everything, especially with the economy like this," Jones said. "(I) think it'll be great."

Pruitt agreed.

"We're giving back into the economy by bringing associates in," he said. "That's bringing money to us, because customers are looking for people to take care of them."

For consideration, candidates can apply for positions at http://careers.homedepot.com or at the in-store career kiosk at a local Home Depot store.
