JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state attorney general has dropped a suggestion of moving death row inmate James Billiot to a state prison in east Mississippi. The state had argued Billiot could remain incarcerated and get treatment for mental disability. AG Jim Hood says the proposal was the result of a miscommunication.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - State lawmakers are working on a bill to honor two legendary baseball coaches in Alcorn State University sports history. The House passed a measure naming the baseball stadium after coach Willie E. "Rat" McGowan Sr. The field inside the stadium would be named for the late William "Bill" Foster.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi lawmakers are considering a later start date for schools. At issue is whether school districts should be banned from starting the academic year before Sept. 1. Tourism officials says coastal attractions have lost business because many districts start school in early August.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Four men have been indicted in a double homicide last October at a Jackson beauty salon. Hinds County prosecutors say Stephen Adams, William Fleming, Kelvin Brown and Kendric Nash are each charged with murder. No trial date has been scheduled.
