LAKELAND, TN (WMC-TV) - The body of a missing Bartlett woman was found late Tuesday afternoon in northeast Shelby County.

The body of Lisa Renee Davis was found in a field behind New Salem Cumberland Church on Salem Road in Lakeland, according to officials at the scene.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a man Bartlett police were visiting to question in Davis' disappearance shot and killed himself in his Lakeland home.

Authorities said Austin Agee, 21, died shortly after shooting himself.

Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular said the incident happened when Bartlett detectives investigating the disappearance of Davis arrived at a home at 6711 Palomino Road early Tuesday afternoon.

When detectives knocked at the door, Agee's mother answered. The detectives then asked her if they could speak with Agee, who she said was in an upstairs bedroom.

When Agee's mother went upstairs to get him, the officers heard commotion, and then a gunshot. The officers found Agee suffering from a single gunshot wound.

"There was some sort of commotion that went on right when they got upstairs, and then there was a gunshot," Shular said.

He died at the scene.

According to Shular, it was not the first time detectives visited the home Tuesday. They were at the home earlier in the day following up on leads.

A note that was found with Agee's body helped lead authorities to the site where they found Davis.

Her body was removed from the area where it was found shortly after 6:00pm Tuesday.

Mud from the road near where the body was found matched mud found on Agee's truck, which was towed from the house.  Bartlett Police Lt. Rory Mack said it will be combed for clues, as officers attempt to answer the many questions that remain in the case.

"Why?  What was the relationship?  How did they know each other.  All those questions, and hopefully, we'll be able to get those answered," he said.

Davis went missing early Sunday morning, after friends dropped her off at her home in Bartlett. Later that day, when Davis did not show up for work at Bumpus Harley Davidson, concerned co-workers called police.

When no one answered the door at her home, officers busted a window pane to get inside, where they found her purse, cell phone, and other personal effects.

Bartlett police have scheduled a press conference for 9:30am Wednesday to discuss information about the case.  You can watch that press conference live on WMCTV.com.
