The Waffle House -- just waffled.
For a minute there, I thought they'd let me come in the West Memphis, AR, restaurant at 2309 E. Service Road. It's one of the most improved restaurants in the last month.
The Crittenden County Health Department doesn't give scores, but its health inspection report from the first week of March cites the Waffle House for inadequate hand-washing facilities; "food encrusted" around non-food contact surfaces, drawers and cabinet doors; and the "Stirrer; for omelets encrusted and needs detailed..."
The department's reports indicate after a one-month clean-up and two follow-up inspections, the Waffle House corrected all of the critical violations.
But neither the restaurant's West Memphis management nor its food group in Memphis would let me in to see its improvements.
I hate it when that happens. Hold that omelet.
THIS WEEK'S BIG TIP: Moctezuma's Grill, 737 N Washington St, Forrest City, AR, (870) 630-0273
It's been open three months. It doesn't even have its liquor license yet. But our Forrest City viewers voted Moctezuma's Grill as the Best Place to Eat in the county seat of St. Francis County.
"Great food! Great service!" exclaims Paige Poteat, a Forrest City hair stylist who says she eats at Moctezuma's three times a week.
The service is what really sells the place.
"Their service is far beyond anything that the other restaurants have," says Forrest City's Bobbie McMahan, another regular.
