MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The most important part of receiving our digital signal is choosing the proper antenna, and then positioning it in the proper manner inside your home or business.
IF YOU LIVE WITHIN 20 MILES OF WMC-TV 5's TRANSMITTER:
If you live within a 20 mile radius of WMC-TV 5's transmitter site (click here for a map), you should be able to receive our signal with the GE Easy Adjust Antenna, model # 24734.
This antenna is available at most Home Depot stores. You can also purchase this antenna online from Amazon.com.
Once you have your antenna, placement is critical. Pull the rods out as far as they will go (fully extended), and position them horizontally, at a right angle from our transmitter site. This will maximize the reception of our transmitted signal.
EXAMPLE ANTENNA PLACEMENT
If you have an antenna with a built in booster/amplifier we have found in some cases there can be too much signal for some TV’s or converter boxes to work properly. In those cases turning off the booster or replacing your antenna with a set of rabbit ears has solved the problem.
Our DTV transmitter site is located on Crestview Lane, just off Covington Pike at Highway 40 (click here for a map). So, if you live in Collierville, you should point the tips of the antennas northeast and southwest. Some trial and error is usually necessary to make this work.
IF YOU LIVE MORE THAN 20 MILES FROM WMC-TV 5's TRANSMITTER:
If you live more than 20 miles from WMC-TV 5's transmitter, you may need a larger antenna mounted outside your home to reliably receive our signal.
There are a wide variety of antennas available from Solid Signal that may fit your needs. A member of our technical department will be happy to discuss antenna choices with you. Please call us or email us using the contact information below for help.
