Look out, Mom. Your cooking has some competition.
More of our Scorecard viewers nominated The Cupboard Restaurant for Best Home-Style than any other home-cookin' heaven. Good-cooking mamas and papas are taking notice, but not offense.
"The eggplant casserole is much better than the one that I prepare," confessed Vivian Dillihunt of Bartlett, TN, who visits once a month for that casserole and for great fellowship.
"It's like the old store in a town where everything happens," said Constantina Baldwin of Raleigh on her lunch break. "You always run into someone important here."
In fact, we ran into Memphis Mayor-Elect AC Wharton, attacking a plate full of turkey & dressing. He knows The Cupboard's the place to be seen.
"From my standpoint, it's the place to be fed!" he said. "(When) I'm having to tighten my belt up a few notches and my pants are falling off, hey, I pick it right back up here! This is the place!"
Owner Charles Cavallo and his crew go through 500 pounds of potatoes a day and 200 pounds of green tomatoes a day. Expect the freshest vegetables, cornbread muffins and healthy choices.
