The Mid-South has a great reputation for its generosity when it comes to charitable giving, and you certainly get a good feeling about that at Christmas time. Dozens of fundraising efforts have been conducted here this holiday season.
The quantity and quality of them tend to underscore research from a year ago that showed that households in Memphis donate an average of more than $4,000 a year to various charities. That's 85 percent more than the national average.
From all of us here at WMC, we want to thank everyone who came out again this year to support our Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive. This year's food drive netted the equivalent of 160-thousand pounds of food which will be distributed to charities throughout the region by the Mid-South Food Bank.
Your generosity will make the holiday season and the New Year brighter for some of our neighbors. And for many of us, these charitable activities are the ones that define the true meaning of Christmas.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
