YOUR TURN: No second chances

Posted: Updated:

The Your Turn mailbox was full this week with letters from people who don't like the new Memphis Police Department policy on DUI's. The policy applies to Memphis police officers who are arrested on DUI charges while they are off duty. The new policy gives them a second chance to keep their jobs. Kevi Bomar is one of many who wrote to say he doesn't like it.

In his words:

I am a truck driver and if I get arrested for DUI, I lose my license AND my job. If you don't drive responsibly, you lose the privilege to drive, and if your job is driving a vehicle, you should lose that job as well. Like I said, I am a truck driver who hauls gasoline in this city, so I really have a problem with being confronted with a drunk driver, no matter who it is. I really enjoy being able to arrive safely at home to see my children every day after work. If your drunk police officer crosses into my lane, neither of us may have a second chance, and who will support my family then?

That's Kevi Bomar's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
