DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC-TV) - The job of transporting children is not easy, but for a DeSoto County bus driver, driving a bus is its own reward.

Linda Wilson, known to students as Ms. Cookie, has been a driver for the DeSoto County Schools since 1974.

Recently, she was honored with the first ever 'Bus Driver of the Year' award from the district. Supervisor Kim Williams says no one deserves it more.

"Everybody agreed," Williams said. "Even the drivers said that she definitely deserves it. She takes care of business. She takes care of the kids.

Besides her family, nothing makes Wilson as happy as driving a bus. Currently, she transports special needs children.

Wilson believes there is one major qualification a bus driver should have.

"You've gotta love people," she said. "You've gotta love everybody. We're all the same."

After driving both children - and their parents once upon a time - retirement is not in the picture anytime soon for Wilson.

In fact, she recently told her children that when she eventually passes away, she would like to be buried in a school bus.
