MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis teen is getting attention as a published author.  Ehi Ike, 15, began writing her first book two years ago.

"Mimi and her friends must devise a plan to over take their leaders and escape before time runs out," Ike said Thursday, reading an excerpt of her book.

The book, 'Taken Away,' is a fictional account of a child named Mimi Jones, and the horror she faces when the government begins a campaign to abduct children whose parents make less than $50,000 per year.

Ike's parents said their daughter began writing her book at age 13, when she got the idea from a history lesson. She now has an agent, and a book deal with Tate Publishing.

"She is quite disciplined, and I think she will go a long way with whatever she does," said her mother, Earlene.

A student at St. Georges Day school, she hopes to follow in the footsteps of authors like John Grisham and J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame.  But even with a book signing coming up, she does not feel like a celebrity.

"Not at all," she said.

Ike said portions of the proceeds from her book will be donated to Autism research.  Her younger sister is Autistic.

The young Memphis author will sign copies of her book this Saturday, July 10, from 3pm to 6pm at Hastings in Germantown.
