HICKORY HILL, SOUTHEAST MEMPHIS (WMC-TV) - On the cover of his restaurant's Aug. 18 health inspection report, Clyde Tart has written in bold, black ink: God Is Good.
Right above the big, bold number: 100.
"Without God, I wouldn't be standing here today," Tart said. "This is awesome!"
Just five months after opening his second Mr. Tart's Buffalo Wings location inside Hickory Ridge Mall (Mr. Tart's original location is 6158 Stage Road in Bartlett, TN, (901) 380-4096), Tart earned a perfect score on his Memphis-Shelby County Health Department inspection.
Tart's hot wings and specials are out of this world, but it's his heavenly good housekeeping that earned the health inspector's good graces.
"Just constantly staying at it, man," he said. "Every little detail, just constantly at it."
Give Him the glory, Mr. Tart -- and give me some of those wings!
LOW SCORES THIS WEEK:
Danver's, 7970 Hwy. 64 in Bartlett, TN, dropped two points shy of failing with a 71 Aug. 17, then earned another 71 on re-inspection Aug. 31:
Roast beef, fish, ham, sour cream at unsafe temperatures Aug. 17 CORRECTED by Aug. 31
"mold growth on ice dispensing chute" Aug. 17 CORRECTED by Aug. 31
An inspection report indicated the Bartlett Danver's kept its 71 because of a malfunctioning employee hand sink near the drive-thru window.
"We had one sink near the drive-thru they said didn't get hot fast enough," said Danver's owner John Golon. "We can't figure out what that's all about, but we have also corrected that problem."
Subway, 2813 Bartlett Blvd in Bartlett, TN, received a food permit suspension notice with its 73 score Aug. 16:
potentially hazardous food temperatures due to a malfunctioning cooling unit
"black mold build-up (on) interior ice dispenser surfaces"
inspector used the word "DIRTY" 8 times to describe store conditions
"Our sandwich station's cooling unit was running a little hot. That's what caused the food temperature violations," said Subway's manager Danyelle Harvison. "But that's been fixed. The mold build-up in the ice dispenser was taken care of as soon as it was brought to our attention."
The Bartlett Subway redeemed itself on re-inspection Aug. 27 with an 86.
El Kora Taqueria, 694 N. Waring in the Berclair neighborhood of East Memphis, also received a food permit suspension notice with its 74 Aug. 19:
Beef, beef stew and chicken at unsafe temperatures
"roach crawling under wet box"
"dishes washed and rinsed (but) not sanitized"
An employee who could not speak English answered the phone. I asked her to have her manager call me back.
She said something unintelligible, then hung up. I was unable to ever reach the manager or owner Rafaela Lauremo.
A health inspector found no roaches during a Aug. 31 follow-up inspection, but issued El Kora Taqueria another 74 for continuing to allow unsafe food temperatures.
