This week's "Your Turn" segment comes from Carl Lewis. Lewis is commenting on the story about the student who was allegedly injured school security as officers were confiscating his cell phone.
In Lewis's words:
I heard the story of a student who should not have had a cell phone and was abused by officials. There are always two sides to a story. I would bet the student was disrespectful to the security guards and probably did not cooperate with the requests of the guards. Where are the stories of the need for our teachers to feel safe in the classroom? We expect a lot from our teachers, more and more accountability, but as a former teacher, teachers desire more guarantees of safety in and around the classroom. As for the students who disobey and show disrespect for authority, maybe more excessive force is needed.
That's Carl Lewis's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email email@example.com or call 800-465-1210.
