MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Three months after basketball star Lorenzen Wright was found shot to death, Memphis Mayor A C Wharton said he is confident the killer will be brought to justice.

Wright's family members have no closure, and Wharton said he feels their pain.

"It's somewhat insensitive to say to a relative of someone whose life has been taken away, 'just be patient, we're doing this'," said Wharton.

Wharton gets weekly progress reports on the investigation and wants Wright's family to know the investigation has not gone cold.

"Let's do it right, not do it fast," said Wharton. "And that's precisely what we're doing on it."

Wharton compared solving Wright's murder is an intricate puzzles with pieces potentially scattered across the country.

"You're talking about a young man who traveled internationally, lived in more than one city," said Wharton. "You get bits of information from around the nation."

The 34-year-old Wright was missing 10 days before his body was discovered. In order to ensure conviction, investigators must fill in all the blanks before making an arrest.

Wharton said he is confident that arrest is coming.

"Somebody knows," said Wharton. "Somebody knows. Loose lips sink ships, it will come around."

Wharton said investigators cannot afford to overlook any details. He said when someone is charged and the case goes to trial, the details will be exactly what defense attorneys will be looking for.
