HENNING, TN (WMC-TV) - The award winning author of Roots, Alex Haley, was born and raised in Henning, Tennessee.

His home has now been turned into a museum that draws visitors from all over the country.

Two weeks ago, lives in this area were changed forever when post office employees Paula Robinson and Judy Spray were murdered shortly after their work day started.

Alex Haley's boyhood home and museum sit just steps away from the Henning post office. As work continues there, many in the community are concerned.

Officials at the Lauderdale County Chamber of Commerce say they've had an increase in the number of residents wanting to find out about handgun permit classes.

"People are still scared and I think they'll be happy when the people are found but from the standpoint of a small town, people are still frightened," Henning Mayor Michael Bursey said.

Museum staff members say they feel safe despite the murders happening just steps from their own work.

"We want to make sure our town is safe," Bursey said. "I feel like we have good police protection around here but we still need the public's support."

Henning residents say they are trying to move on, but they want someone to come forward with information that will help solve these murders.

If you have any information that could help federal agents solve the Henning post office murders, call toll free at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
