MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Leaders in the North Memphis-Douglas Community are inviting residents to march against violence Saturday, as they united to fight crime, drugs and gang violence.

Organizer George Golden invites everyone tired of crime to gather at the MATA north end Bus terminal downtown for an 11:30 a.m. march to Memphis City Hall.

"I'm trying to raise awareness about the crime, drug and gang violence that is occurring in our city," Golden said.  "We are just letting the city know we are tired of it, and something has got to change."

The "I'm Tired of the Violence March" will feature speakers like the Reverend Torrie Wilson, who has helped unite eight churches in the Douglass Community:

"So the churches, we get together, we collaborate, and ask our members to donate one dollar a week, just one dollar a week, to this employment fund," Wilson said.

The churches intend to hire and train unemployed young people to mow overgrown yards and address abandoned properties. The Douglass Pastors Consortium says providing employment in this neighborhood is a key to fighting crime, drugs and gangs:

"Once we put the faith to work and people see it in this neighborhood, others will be motivated to join up," Wilson said. "You have to show faith in order to get people on board with it."

The "I'm Tired of the Violence March" is scheduled for Saturday morning.  Participants will gather at the MATA terminal downtown at 10:30 a.m., and will march to Memphis City Hall at 11:00 a.m.
