MEMPHIS (WMC-TV) - Environmentalists with the Memphis-Shelby County Health Department might consider carrying a thesaurus and extra ink cartridges along on their restaurant inspections.

They almost ran out of ink writing the word "dirty" on two restaurants' reports this latest go-round.

Jessie B's BBQ & Soul Food, 6225 Mt. Moriah in Hickory Hill, failed its Oct. 27 inspection with a 69:

DIRTY written 11 TIMES for:  vent filters, handsink, microwave, warmer, air freezer, storage shelves, floor, light shield, cutting board, rubber gasket on chest freezer

"water leak at handsink"

"no soap or paper towels at handsink"

"There's no excuse," said owner and Master Chef Jessie Hearns. He mentioned he had several employees no-show the day the inspector arrived, and he was trying to cook and clean-up all by himself.

"My customers definitely know that anytime they come here to Jessie B's, we run a good, clean establishment," Hearns said.

97 was his previous inspection score.

He graciously allowed Action News 5 our own inspection Nov. 10. The dining room and kitchen shined. Hearns filled the paper towel dispensers. He purchased the parts to repair the leaking sink.

Shortly after our inspection, health department environmentalist Sheila Holman conducted her re-inspection. She upgraded Jessie B's to an 83.

Cheeburger, Cheeburger, 4650 Merchants Park Cr. in Collierville, TN, failed its Oct. 27 inspection with a 69:

DIRTY written 17 TIMES for:  floors, handsink, shelves, fan covers, ceiling vent, wall, meat slicer, vent-a-hood filters, cutting board

"cracked food containers"

"sewage is in the toilet in the (women's) second stall"

"mold inside the ice machine, ice bin"

Manager Marquisha Moore never returned a message Action News 5 left with one of her employees.

Collierville's Cheeburger, Cheeburger awaits re-inspection.
