HENNING, TN (WMC-TV) - Through song and prayer, residents of Henning came together Monday evening to pray for their small town - a town that recently experienced one of the worst crimes in it's history.

"The purpose is two-fold," Henning Mayor Michael Bursey said. "One is to pray for our town, the safety of our citizens, the security of our citizens, and to pray for the economics of our neighborhood."

Monday, more than a month after the shootings, residents gathered to remember 33-year-old Paula Robinson and 58-year-old Judy Spray.  The postal employees were killed inside Henning's post office when gunmen opened fire on October 18.

"It still affects us because we have the federal authorities still investigating the case, which is something unusual for a small town," Bursey said.

Because of the lingering effects of the tragedy, the town decided to cancel it's annual Christmas parade.  Instead, residents gathered to pray that whoever is responsible for the tragic incident will be caught or come forward.

"It's a devastating situation," pastor Larry Dye said. "We just need closure. We're here as part of a prayer vigil to pray that God will help expose the people that did this hideous crime."

Some residents say there are too many unanswered questions...and not knowing who did it or why has some of them on edge.

"We don't know if there's a serial killer out there or whatever happened," resident Betty Houston said.

So far no arrests have been made. Postal officials and investigators are still pleading with the public to come forward with information that can help solve the crime.
