MEMPHIS, TN -

You know the old quote, "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Well, you could say the same thing about the saggy pants.

There was a lot of complaining about the sagging pants, but not much action until Westside Middle School Principal Bobby White and his team came up with a clever plan. The educators at the Frayser-area school patrol the halls armed with zip ties, ready at a moment's notice to hoist up the sagging pants of their students until the pants are locked in place at height which reminds everyone of the character Steve Urkel from the sitcom, "Family Matters."

Appropriately, they describe the punishment as getting "Urkeled."

There's a lot if wisdom in the Westside leaders' approach to this problem. Number one, they're getting the job done. They're teaching the students the importance of respect, and self-respect, and they're doing it in a way that seems to build school spirit at the same time.

Thank you, Principal White and thank you, Urkel.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
