YOUR TURN: A story that was not newsworthy

Updated: Dec 19, 2010 09:46 AM
MEMPHIS, TN -

This week "Your Turn" segment goes to Jennifer Daniel. Daniel is very angry about the Action News 5 coverage of Cannon Smith. Smith is the son of FedEx founder Fred Smith and a football quarterback at the University of Memphis.

In Daniel's words:

Explain to me why Cannon Smith's arrest is news worthy. How many people get drunk on Beale Street nightly? His father has contributed more to this city than anyone could ever put a figure on. Can you imagine Memphis without FedEx? Fred Smith is already disenchanted with Memphis and our many problems. Are you all trying to send the poor man right over the edge and out of Memphis? The crime, child abuse, domestic abuse, corruption, education issues, babies born without a chance in this city are news worthy. Not a twenty something college guy getting drunk. Shame on you.

That's Tim Riley's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
