This week's "Your Turn" segment goes to Art Weeden. Weeden is weighing in on the potential consolidation of Shelby County schools.
In his words: I first came to Memphis in August of 1968. My wife and I were new college grads and were excited about teaching in the Memphis City Schools. Almost from the beginning, when I would go to the Board of Education building for some reason or another and observed the Memphis City Schools central office building right next to the Shelby County Schools office building it made no sense to me. Why have the two buildings with two staffs doing essentially the same thing? One staff would be much more cost effective without diminishing the quality of education. I have continued to be an advocate of one system for Shelby County now for 42 years. Hopefully, I will get to vote for that consolidation. That's Art Weeden's turn. Now it's your turn.
