TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -As you can imagine, those who witnessed the shooting are still reeling. This is a place where people live and children play. Tuesday night everything changed. Deadly gunshots broke out just before midnight shattering their peace.
"I was awakened by pounding on the door," said David Dickerson.
The shooting happened in front of David Dickerson's apartment. At first he thought it might be a fire.
"It was people wanting to know if they could come into my room and look for bullet holes. I didn't know, I was still half asleep, but I've never been more confused in my life. I said, ‘bullet holes?'" said Dickerson.
Dickerson said the officers looked around his apartment.
"I said, ‘What in the world happened', and I couldn't believe it when I opened the door," said Dickerson.
Across the parking lot Annie Carter woke up to a loud noise.
"Boom, boom, boom woke me up. I thought someone was trying to break in on me," said Carter.
She said she peeked out of her window through the blinds but couldn't see very well in the dark. She then looked out the door trying to figure out the source of the sound.
"The landlord told me to get back in because she was afraid I'd get hit," said Carter.
While no residents were injured, the same can't be said for an apartment and Dickerson's car.
"After everything was over I got a flashlight and came out here and I'll be darned if my car had been shot," said Dickerson.
A silver indention where a bullet hit Dickerson's car is more evidence of the terrible tragedy.
"Unbelievable. You hear of this in big cities and things but that's never going to happen to me, ‘Did that really happen', you know, but yeah it does," said Carter.
I just hate that about that policeman. I thought about that half the night. I just couldn't go back to sleep," said Dickerson.
And there could be more restless nights for these residents who are wrapping their minds around how this could happen in their neighborhood.
