JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - In an email to Region 8 News and other media outlets, the family of Trumann Police Officer Jonathan Schmidt thank the community for its outpouring of support during their difficult time:

We would like to express our deepest heartfelt thanks to all of the Paramedics of Trumann Ambulance Service, Doctors and Nurses at the Baptist NEA Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas who tried to save our Son's life in the ER. Also to all Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters, friends, 1First Baptist Church of Trumann, and Central Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Thanks for your loving turn out and support for our Son and his family. To our loving community, God bless you and thank for your prayers, support and donations. To all media thanks for respecting our privacy in our time of sadness.

According to the Police Benevolent Foundation, a fundraiser Monday for Officer Schmidt's family raised more than $65,000.

JONESBORO AND TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) – Just a week ago, Trumann Police Officer Jonathan Schmidt was killed in the line of duty, and now Region 8 residents have the opportunity to help the family he left behind.

 

100% of proceeds donated to The Fallen Officer Memorial Fund Drive will be going to Officer Schmidt's wife and three young children. Please donate by going online or by texting "COPS SCHMIDT" to 85944.
