(WMC-TV) - I want to take this opportunity to thank the Action News 5 Storm Tracking Team for their work this week to keep people in the Mid-South safe in the face of severe weather.

While we had some tremendous damage and loss of life in our area, what happened next door to us in the state of Alabama underscores why our weather team does what it does.

All of the red dots on the map on this page signify tornadoes ,and they could have just as easily been over the Mid-South as North Alabama.

When we have these events, we hear from people with a full range of opinions. At one extreme are the people who cannot believe that we interrupt entertainment programs to broadcast tornado warnings.

At the other end of the spectrum are those who thank us for saving their lives. You know which phone call has the greater impact.

Also, we hear from people who say we didn't give the information for their specific area. For the record, there's no community in our coverage area that's too small to warrant our attention during a severe weather event. It is true that during a major outbreak, we focus our coverage on the communities facing the most severe threat.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 800-465-1210.
