(WMC-TV) - For the first time ever, casinos in Tunica, Mississippi were forced to close their doors Sunday until the rising waters recede.
"We love to play, but the building was pulling away so you can see the big gaps and the water rising up to the windows," said casino patron Nashanta Williams.
At Horseshoe Casino, the Tunica County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team arrived with Brinks Security, armed with machine guns. They came to remove millions of dollars that was brought to Horseshoe Casino from Harrah's when the flood waters began pouring in and everyone was forced to evacuate.
"We got out as fast as we could given the circumstances," said R. Scott Barber with Caesar's Entertainment.
Regional President of Caesars Entertainment Valerie Morris said in addition to cutting off the power, other items has to be removed from Harrah's as a safety precaution.
"Removing perishable goods to removing all the assets," said Morris. "All the chips, cash, computers, all sorts of things."
While Horseshoe Casino remained open for business Sunday, officials there were also making preparations to close. A retainer wall and sandbags were brought in to keep the flood waters out and to prevent a scene similar to the one at Harrah's.
"We're still open on the dry side," said Morris. "So the two hotels, the convention center and golf course are still open because they're not affected by the waters."
Gaming will stop at both Horseshoe and Tunica Roadhouse Casinos at 4:00 a.m. Monday. People are expected to be out of the building by 11:00 a.m. Monday. Both casinos could reportedly remain closed for about three to six weeks.
