Mobile home residents assess damage as floodwaters recede

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - More than two weeks after flooding forced Country View Mobile Home residents from their trailers, the pain of losing everything was finally soaking in for some.

The Sunday morning rain only made the pain worse.

"It's really hard right now," said flood victim Candy Elliston.

Tina Soich's trailer was heavily damaged.

"The tiles is off the floors, the walls are all mildewed," said Soich.  "The TVs, the refrigerator are all turned over in the trailer."

Soich said she is not alone.  She said everyone in the trailer park has lost practically everything.

"Have you seen my place?  I mean, it's destroyed," said Elliston.  "Just everything.  My clothes and my whole life was in there."

Elliston said she and her sister had to swim away from their trailer after floodwaters completely covered it.  She fought back tears as she went back to inspect the damage.

As Elliston sifted through the debris, she found pictures of her son, who died two years ago.  She said those pictures were all she has left to remember him by.

"Finding that picture, that was nice," she said.  "That was wonderful.  Thank God."
