(WMC-TV) - Barbara Wooten sat in her wheelchair inside Judge Chris Craft's courtroom Tuesday just feet from 21 year-old Dexter Cox.  He's the young man on trial for shooting Wooten and killing her husband Herbert.

"I seen him shoot him and then he shot me," said Wooten.  "And then he shot him again."

It happened in October of 2007, during what police called a botched robbery attempt at the Wooten home in Frayser.

"I managed to crawl to the dining room to get my cell phone," said Wooten.

Wooten told Action News 5 she's had to rely on a wheelchair ever since.

"I can't walk, I can't stand," said Wooten.  "If I do manage to stand, it's with a walker."

Wooten hopes the trial ends with a guilty verdict and that Cox receives an appropriate punishment.

"If somebody kills a person for no apparent reason," said Wooten.  "I think they should be put to death."

Cox still faces two other murder trials, including one for the shooting death of popular Memphis Police Lieutenant Ed Vidulich.

We got to know him well in 2006 when he watched over a wayward manatee in the Wolf River Harbor.

Vidulich was found dead inside his Frayser home three months after the Wooten murder.

Police later arrested Cox for firing a weapon in public.  They said the gun was stolen from the Vidulich home.

"I'd like to see him put under," said Barbara Wooten.  "That's putting it nicely."

Gwendolyn Cherry is the third murder victim tied to Dexter Cox.  She was killed a few weeks before Mr. Wooten.  The jury in this week's trial has not been told of the other murders.
