MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - A Millington hot wings restaurant is closed after police said they were selling drugs out of the business.
Yellow tape surrounded the Wing Hut-N-Sum building Monday. Regulars of the restaurant said they were stunned to find a shutdown notice on the front door and lights off inside.
"No kind of red flags or nothing," said customer Linda Davenport. "It just blows my head."
Undercover officers bought marijuana and cocaine from the owner in a transaction video and audio taped.
"It was a little more than just chicken wings," said Millington Police Chief Ray Douglas. "We were able to make several buys."
Saturday, police raided the restaurant. Owner Steve Shipp is locked up at 201 Poplar on a number of drug charges and a $65,000 bond.
"We feel like he was a major player in North Shelby County in narcotics," said Douglas.
Douglas said he believes Shipp is a one-time associate of convicted druglord and killer Craig Petties.
Customers described Shipp as a good person and a good cook.
"The food was great," said Davenport. "He had great food."
