MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - It's hard to imagine a sadder story than the one that's been in our news this week -- the senseless death of a dedicated Memphis Police Officer. Those who knew him say Officer Timothy Warren was even more dedicated to his family and he was a friend to the downtrodden.

The family photo of Officer Warren, his wife, Betsy, and their children, eight-year old James and four-year old Jewel, will break your heart. Family members say young James is still trying to come to terms with his anger toward the bad guy. Aren't we all?

As is our tradition, Mid-South residents have come forward with donations for the family of Officer Warren. It's wonderful to see so many different people coming together to support this family, but we know that our gifts will represent only a small gesture to their great loss.

As we go about our daily lives, we're certainly happy to have the protection that we receive every day from our police officers. I know it's just human nature, but it's unfortunate that most of us don't really acknowledge the full magnitude of what they do for us until something awful happens like this.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
