MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - In a video the Officer Timothy Warren posted to YouTube earlier this year, the fallen officer talks about his two paths - working as an officer, and his faith as a Christian.
Warren was killed Sunday evening while responding to a domestic violence call at a downtown Memphis hotel.
But in March of this year, Warren posted a video on YouTube, openly but quietly questioning how his profession squared with his faith, and whether police work and Christianity are at odds.
The Commercial Appeal in Memphis re-posted the video on Thursday.
"Which path to follow?" Warren asks in the video. "Show professional integrity on a traffic stop by ticketing a driver for every mile over the speed limit? Or show mercy and release them with a warning in good faith that they'll slow down?"
Warren asked a series of 12 questions, and wondered if it was possible to be forgiving while also doing right by crime victims.
"Where do my paths merge and diverge?" he asked. "Which path will I choose then?">
The video depicts a deep spiritual journey of a man willing to surrender neither path, seemingly content to go forward without the answers he sought.
"'Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world," he said. "Ephesians 6:12. Is that police? I think partly, but I hope not...I pray both paths can merge without yielding."
